Baby Jesus stolen from Hancock County manger
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Baby Jesus has gone missing from a nursery in Hancock County.
It was part of the exhibit in a church in Arlington, but now it is nowhere to be found. Church leaders say there may in fact be some silver lining.
A staff member from Arlington United Methodist Church came out about a day ago and found the baby Jesus was gone. If you talk to the staff inside, they aren’t angry.
“I went out and looked and it wasn’t there. I checked with a few people who may have had it or were working on it and no one had a clue, ”said Pastor Mark Gregory.
Pastor Gregory is not asking for a manhunt for the thief. Whether it was a prank or some more infamous reason, he wants this person to know that a lot of people donated money for the set which was brand new this Christmas season.
“We ordered it specially. We raised the funds. It wasn’t cheap. Before that we had one of those plastic things from 1950 for many, many years, ”said Pastor Gregory.
Baby Jesus was on display there for the whole month of December and it sure could be anywhere, but Pastor Gregory is looking for the bright spots.
Maybe this gives the church a chance to see how they are changing the display in the future, maybe make it more interactive. Already the church’s Facebook post is widely shared, a post that offers people Jesus but in a more personal and meaningful way
“We believe that God can work under any circumstance. There is a positive side to all of this. We met a lot of people we would never have met before. If people have a little laugh at the way we approached it or a little blessing, that’s great, ”said Pastor Gregory.
