Cardinal sets an example by getting vaccinated
Cardinal Sir John Ribat, took center stage as he received his COVID-19 booster shot in front of 1,000 church leaders across the Southern Highlands region last week.
The Cardinal, along with the Reverend Roger Joseph and Lovai Lahui of the PNG Council of Churches, all received their vaccinations on stage at the annual Southern Highlands Province Body of Christ (SHPBoC) Pastors Convention in Mendi. In doing so, they demonstrated that there was no need to fear the vaccine.
“I wanted to show people that I believe in the vaccine.
“I am not afraid of the vaccine, because I trust in God.
“And they should do the same,” Cardinal Ribat said.
Rev. Joseph said one of the biggest hurdles in overcoming vaccine hesitancy is the widespread misinformation that causes great confusion and fear.
It is distressing to see people misusing the Bible to spread this fake news about the vaccine.
He urged leaders to seize the opportunity to “step out of their boxes” and consider new and modern ways to spread the gospel while sharing the right information about COVID-19.
“It saves lives,” he said.
“And so, it is our duty to our people.”
In an effort to reinforce the benefits of the vaccine while imparting the right information, Rev. Jeff Meyers and Dr. Susan Meyers, Church of the Nazarene field missionaries, delivered a lecture on COVID theology to a receptive crowd. .
In their fields as reverend and doctor, the couple spoke about religion and science together to deliver a strong message about the benefits of getting vaccinated.
“As pastors and church leaders, it is your responsibility to get the information correct and share it,” Reverend Meyers told the crowd.
“Being a Christian does not mean the absence of ‘hevis’ (hard times).”
He challenged the mistaken belief of some that Christians are not susceptible to the COVID-19 virus.
Dr Meyers told the faithful crowd, ‘God gave knowledge to scientists to save us’, reminding them that science and religion are not opposing forces, but can be used together for the greater good of all .
