Iola Chickering, 81, of Algona passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Algona Mansion. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on April 16, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Algona. Interment took place at Riverview Cemetery. The services were streamed live on the Lentz Funeral Home website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/iola-chickering. Iola Louise (McKee) Chickering, daughter of Gerald and Mabel (Thomas) McKee, was born on January 22, 1941 in Iowa City. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1959.
On August 7, 1960, Iola married Marv Chickering at Macksburg United Methodist Church. Iola worked for many years as a secretary at First United Methodist Church in Algona. She was also a member of The United Methodist Church and was involved in many charities within the church as well as in the Algona area. Iola enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing bridge, quilting, spending time with her family and attending their events and the countless mission trips she shared with Marv.
Left to cherish the memory of Iola are her husband of 61 years, Marv; children, Kimberly (James) VanFosson of Altoona, Dan (Yoko) Chickering of San Diego, Cali. and Dave (Jill) Chickering of Vermillion, SD; 12 grandchildren: Amanda (Matthew) VanFosson Rauch, Aimee (Brandon) VanFosson Piper, Alyssa (Logan) VanFosson Lafler, Annika Chickering, Jennifer Chickering, Branden Chickering, Molly (Paul) Chickering Sauer, Megan (Jordan) Chickering Van Meeteren, Melissa (Lucas) Chickering Lyngaas, MeagAnn (Trever) LeCates Turner, Molly LeCates and Melanie LeCates; 12 great-grandchildren: Keaton Rauch, Clara Rauch, Kinnick Rauch, Mason Sauer, Paisley Sauer, Scarlett Turner, Logan Van Meeteren, Willa Van Meeteren, Piper Van Meeteren, Vada Brown, Donavon Lafler and Annabella Lafler; brother: Larry (Ivy) McKee of Spring, Texas; sisters: Maxine Anderson of Dayton, Ohio, Afada (Dwight) Silverthorn of Mesa, Arizona, and Carlotta (Kenneth) Wilcox of Loveland, Colorado; sister-in-law, Lola (Lyman) McKee, Donna (Roger) McKee of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Mabel McKee; brothers: Francis (Joe), Lyman, William, Roger and Melvin McKee; one sister, Lucile Brown; brothers-in-law, Arthur (Lucile) Brown and John (Maxine) Anderson; sisters-in-law, Wilma (Francis) McKee, Inez (William) McKee and Dorie (Melvin) McKee.
Memorials can be made in Iola’s name and addressed to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatum, Illinois or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
