Lawrence “Larry” Hudson, 94, of Dubuque, formerly of Low Moor, Iowa, died peacefully on January 29, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center, Dubuque.

Larry was born on December 27, 1927 to Fay and Ada (Roesger) Hudson in Low Moor, Iowa. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1945, he served in the United States Army at the end of World War II. Upon his return, he earned an associate’s degree and began his career in accounting. He married Shirley Miller on August 26, 1951 in DeWitt. They were the parents of three boys, Thomas, Michael and Joseph. The couple resided in Low Moor until the 1980s and retired to Arizona in the 1990s. Shirley predeceased him in 2013.

Larry was a longtime member of the Low Moor Methodist Church. He loved getting together with his family and friends. After losing his sight to glaucoma, Larry enjoyed keeping himself busy by cooking, knitting, exercising, riding a tandem bike with Shirley, and many other activities.

Surviving are his son, Joe of Chicago, and his granddaughter, Mindi (Kyle) Smith of Dickeyville, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Jarred and Caitlin Smith; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sons, Tom and Mike, his sisters, Maxine (Bruce) Anderson, Donna (Don) Reher and Sandra (Don) Sterbenz.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Low Moor Methodist Church, Pastor Kären Larson officiating. Interment will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Commission for the Blind.
