More Property worth N10 million Naira was razed yesterday at the Diocesan Cathedral, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Uzuakoli Diocese, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State .
The fire, it was learned, started around 2 a.m. at Dodd Memorial Cathedral, Uzuakoli, after a vigil by some worshipers had ended.
A witness said the fire destroyed Church property and important documents kept inside the bishop’s office and another adjoining office.
Speaking on the incident, the Bishop of Uzuakoli Methodist Diocese, Rt. Rev. (Dr) Anyanwu James Alozie lamented the great loss suffered by his diocese in hell.
The Bishop, who led reporters around the burned building, noted that the fire started around 2 a.m. following a power surge in his office after power was restored to the area.
Bishop Alozie noted that various electronic devices and various land documents, as well as parish registers were burned to ashes. He added that gold plates and cups used for Holy Communion and other valuables worth around 10 million naira also caught fire.
“Everything in my office is completely burned. Electronics, important documents, files and records were all burned. It was the efforts of the church members and people in this community that prevented the fire from spreading to the altar and the entire church hall,” the Bishop said.
Bishop Alozie, who thanked God that no life was lost in the fire, thanked members of his church and natives of Uzuakoli for mastering hell. He appealed to the Abia state government, businesses and notables to help his church replace the destroyed property.
