Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, S Jaishankar call Mamata Banerjee; assure him of the help of the Center
Prime Minister Narendra modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah called on Chief Minister Mamata banerjee Friday to take stock of the state’s current situation against the backdrop of coronavirus epidemic. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also called Banerjee on the same day.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the measures taken by the state government to prevent the spread of COVID-19[female[feminine, according to sources. A source within the administration said Banerjee had also requested help from the Center in tackling the coronavirus in the state.
According to the chief minister’s office, the state government will need to offer massive relief to unorganized and organized sectors to weather the crisis after the 21-day lockdown. He added that if the state government gets the green light from the Center, then it will get a loan of Rs 65,000 crore from the market.
Sources said Modi also assured Banerjee of the coordination of the Center.
Meanwhile, Shah discussed the border as well as public order situations in the state during the lockdown. He also assured Banerjee of the Center’s assistance with military and paramilitary forces, if needed.
Jaishankar and Banerjee also had a conversation in which they agreed that the state and the Center would work together to fight the coronavirus.
The chief minister said the foreign minister could call him or call chief secretary Rajiva Sinha for any help or information needed.
