2 Corinthians 5:1 says “For we know that if the earthly tent in which we live is destroyed, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heaven.” John went to meet her precious Savior on January 28, 2022 and experienced the fullness of that promise as she slipped peacefully from this life to the next to be with her Lord. His two daughters were by his side to witness this beautiful transition.
Frances Jean Arnold was born on October 8, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Irene Leslie Skipper and Lonnie H. Arnold, Sr. She was the youngest of four brothers and five sisters who predeceased her. Jean attended Heard Elementary School, Miller High School and Young Harris College where she graduated with an Associate Teaching Degree with Distinction.
She married William Marshall Clark, Jr., of Birmingham, Alabama in 1951. After his death in 1959, Jean returned to Macon and built a house across from where she was born and raised. In addition to being a substitute teacher at John H. Heard Elementary, she went to work for the town of Macon, Lamar Pontiac, and retired from WRAFB as an item manager in 1990.
Jean found love again when she married Martin “Rip” L. Boyd in 1995. They spent special times together traveling, cooking and gardening. Rip died in 1998.
John was loved by all who knew her and loved her Lord Jesus with all her heart. Her love for people showed as she prayed daily for her family and friends, always putting others before herself. His witness card ministry spoke volumes.
Jean enjoyed his involvement with Liberty United Methodist Church as an active member of the Julian Tucker Sunday School Class, serving in many positions at UMW, participating in Bible studies, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival and taught Sunday school for eight years. As a lay member, she represented Liberty at the South Georgia Methodist Conference. She was also a member of the Federated Garden Club and former Vice President and Corresponding Secretary of the Porterfield Garden Club. She was one of the founders of Windsor Academy and also served on the Macon/Bibb County Public Library Board, where she helped bring the Charles A. Lanford, MD Library into the South Bibb County. Volunteering at Daybreak, gardening, socializing and traveling have brought her great joy.
Jean was a faithful and generous friend who was always ready to listen and take care of him. She was a wonderful mother and is much loved by her two surviving daughters; Marsha L. Clark from Macon, and Deborah Fergusson and her son-in-law, Euan from Taupo, New Zealand. Additionally, those who cherish his memory include many nieces and nephews as well as many friends who are like family.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates consideration of donations made in Jean C. Boyd’s memory to the Martin L. Boyd Scholarship Fund held by the Georgia Methodist Foundation, PO Box 922807, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30010; Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Rd, Macon, GA 31210; Daybreak a project of DePaul USA, 174 Walnut Street, Macon, Georgia 31201; or The Methodist Children’s Home, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.
Marsha, Debbie and Euan wish to express their appreciation for the dedicated care provided by the staff at Pine Pointe Hospice and the many acts of love from family, friends and neighbors.
