Rod Timothy J. ‘Tim’

Timothy J. “Tim” Stem, 64, of Howard, surrounded by his loving family, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, at his home.

Born August 19, 1957 in Bellefonte, he is the son of Barbara K. (Davis) Stem of Beech Creek and the late Richard G. Stem, Sr. On July 14, 1979, at Howard United Methodist Church, he married Julie K. Heverly, who survives at home.

Tim graduated in 1975 from Kent County High School in Worton Maryland. He joined the United States Army and retired after 20 years in the National Guard, earning the rank of 1st Sergeant E8.

He was employed at the Bellefonte Armory, in the maintenance department, retiring after 30 years of service, and also worked at the Tavern Restaurant at State College, in the maintenance department, retiring after 26 years.

Tim excelled in wrestling during his school years. He struggled for seven years. He was a regional champion in the ninth grade at Park Forest Middle School at State College and a regional champion in the 11th grade at Kent County High School in Worton, Maryland. His career was 72 wins for 14 losses.

Tim was an excellent carpenter. He always helped his family and friends with household projects. He volunteered for many projects in his church. No matter what he did, his family came first.

He loved spending time with them, especially the grandchildren.

Tim is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters: Lacy J. Miller and her husband, Aaron, of State College and Leslie H. Johnson and her husband, Rex, of Howard and six grandchildren: Avery Miller, Emma Miller, Julia Johnson, RJ Johnson, Garrett Johnson, and Lilly Johnson.

He is also survived by his brother, Richard G. Stem, Jr. and his wife, Lois, of Beauford, SC; four sisters: Donna J. Unangst and her husband, Rick, of Milton, Pa., Christine S. Curlett and her husband, George, of Kennedyville, Md., Deborah A. Tran and her husband, Vic, of Myrtle Beach, SC , and Robin L. McKinney and her husband, Greg, of Barclay, Md.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Howard United Methodist Church. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Craig Rose officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place at Schenck Cemetery in Howard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Howard United Methodist Church, 144 W. Main St. Howard, PA 16841.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kader-Neff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 135 W. Main St. Howard, PA 16841.
