Sale of the United Methodist Church awaiting auction | News, Sports, Jobs
Once a place of worship, fellowship and a sentimental piece of history, the 140-year-old Roaring Branch United Methodist Church in Tioga County will be auctioned off early next month.
“It started three years ago when someone in the church involved me because they had churches for sale,” said Michael Roan, the auctioneer for Michael T. Roan Real Estate who is handling the sale of the church.
Roan has sold or is in the process of selling more than 11 churches to date, including a church in Morris, another in Honesdale and others in Bedford and Susquehanna counties.
He said he started selling the churches on behalf of The United Methodist Church.
He is currently working on the sale of a church near Watsontown.
Roaring Branch United Methodist Church, located at 3 Canton St. in Union Township, Tioga County, will be auctioned at 2 p.m. on May 7.
The church was built around 1882 and is in the Canton area school district.
“Just think of all the people who attended and got married here,” he said. “A church is a big part of every community.”
The church is 2,569 square feet and contains a sanctuary and social hall, kitchen, bathrooms, 14 leaded stained glass windows, public water, parking, and a corner lot of over an acre. .
Its owner is Susquehanna Conference United Methodist Church.
The style is a single tier frame.
Upon entering through the two wooden doors with raised wooden panels and two windows with crosses, visitors will see a cloakroom with carpet, leaded stained glass, rope and overhead access to the bell. A large wooden door with raised wooden panels leads to the narthex and two matching doors with raised wooden panels lead to the sanctuary with carpet, 13 leaded stained glass windows, fluorescent lighting, ceiling fan.
